Hendrix bridge

Description

Zagreb, April 2013

"Hendrix" is an informal name of the railway bridge across the river Sava in Zagreb (the light green-blue one in the photo). It had a plain graffitto HENDRIX sprayed on its side for years, allegedly since the late 80's. I remember when the bridge was repainted sometime between 2001 and 2003 (probably, don't remember exactly) because the old paint was already peeling off. It took someone just a couple of days after the work had been finished to spray "HENDRIX" on the same spot once again! :D Since then the bridge is colloquially known as "Hendrix", although there have been new graffitti (and even ads!) sprayed on the bridge, which made it less conspicuous than before.

Diana,
Very cool picture and story!  What building are you in or on?  Or is it a tower?  I like that they paint "HENDRIX" on the same spot.  But why HENDRIX? :?

Outside Washington, DC there is a Mormon Temple that many people, myself included, believe looks like Emerald City in The Wizard of Oz.  There is a highway overpass you go under as you get close to the Temple.  Shortly after the Temple opened back in the 1970s, someone painted "Surrender Dorothy" on the highway overpass.  Now, every few years when they repaint the overpass, someone comes back to the very same spot and repaints "Surrender Dorothy" in the same place. Twenty years ago they could just paint in the middle off the night and chances were they wouldn't get caught.  But you would think that since cell phones and surveillance cameras came along, they'd get caught painting.  I believe that almost everyone secretly likes the fact that it's there, so they just turn their backs to it.

Anyway, here's a piece from the Washington Post about it: www.washingtonpost.com/local/s…

Enjoy!
:)
